Left-arm spinner from South Africa, Keshav Maharaj has penned a deal with Lancashire for the remainder of the 2018 English county season.
Meanwhile, Maharaj will be available for the club’s last four County Championship games. Lancashire currently sits at the bottom of the Division One table with three points from 10 games.
Keshav Maharaj expressed his thrill to sign for Lancashire. He also admitted that he is looking forward to bring in all the experience for his side.
“I’m thrilled to signing for Lancashire for the remainder of the season. Having previously played in England with South Africa, it’s been an ambition of mine to return and play county cricket,” Maharaj notes.
“I’m very much looking forward to joining up with the squad and hopefully I can make a significant contribution to help the team during my time here,” Keshav Maharaj added.
The left-arm spinner has bagged 90 wickets from 22 Tests for South Africa. Most recently, he was spectacular for his side in the recent tour to Sri Lanka. He claimed nine wickets in a Test against Sri Lanka at Colombo.
Furthermore, in England last summer, he claimed 17 wickets in four Tests including six in victory at Trent Bridge.
Glen Chapple, Lancashire’s head coach, expressed his pleasure to rope in Keshav Maharaj. He is hopeful that Maharaj’s inclusion will strengthen the bowling attack of Lancashire.
“We’re really pleased that Keshav has joined the Club. He’s a world-class spinner and will strengthen our bowling attack for the final four Championship games. He is an international bowler with experience of bowling in English conditions and we’re looking forward to welcoming him to Emirates Old Trafford,” he added.
Meanwhile, Lancashire plays their next match against Worcestershire. The last three games will be away games against Somerset, Yorkshire, and Hampshire.
