13 August in the Cricket World is meant for celebrating Left Handers Day. This is a day which is exclusive for all the left handed batsmen and left arm bowlers. They are equally good as the players who prefer right hands. Here is the list of all greatest left handed players who made it to the Left Handed XI.
The two opening slots has to be a healthy competition between three of the most dashing cricketers. Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya, Australia’s Adam Gilchrist and India’s Sourav Ganguly are the three names apart from Matthew Hayden and Stephen Fleming that comes to our mind when we speak of left handed opening batsmen. Imagining the kind of destruction if both Jayasuriya and Gilchrist open the innings, it is nothing less than a nightmare for the bowlers. Both these players have no respite for the bowlers and can whack the ball into/over the boundary with ease. Gilchrist will also don the gloves behind the stumps.
Middle Order Batsmen:
Next walks in the skipper of the side, Sourav Ganguly, who like the openers have scored tons of runs for his side. Ganguly is the perfect foil for Gilchrist and Jayasuriya as he has the tendency to dispatch the bowlers through the off-side and a nemesis for the spinners. Ganguly is followed by two greatest left handed batsman of their own generation (both behind Sachin Tendulkar). Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara and West Indies’ Brian Lara are the two names that get into the team sheet without any hesitation. The Aussie duo of Mike Hussey and Michael Beven take the role of finishing the innings. Beven is considered as the best finisher the game has ever produced and on the other hand, Mike Hussey is all about consistency in whichever format he plays.
Who other than the greatest All-Rounder in the history of the sport Sir Garry Sobers can be included the Left Handers XI.
Daniel Vettori is the lone frontline spinner in the team and will be partnered by Sanath Jayasuriya, who is the second spinner in the field. Vettori is not only an economical bowler but can pick wicket at regular intervals apart from scoring few crucial runs down the order. Pakistan’s legendary pacer Wasim Akram and Sri Lanka’s Chaminda Vass complete the Left Handers XI.
