‘I would like to give first copy of my book to Cristiano Ronaldo’: Chris Gayle

Destructive West Indies opener Chris Gayle is in India for the launch of his book the “Six Machine – I Don’t Like Cricket, I Love it.”

The southpaw said the most famous incident in the book is that the shameful incident that happened in Australia during the Big Bash League while playing for Melbourne Renegades. “There are not many famous incidents apart from the one that happened in Australia. It was actually blown out of proportion. But at the same time, you know, I turn the negative energy into positive energy. People try to degrade you and your achievements around the world. People tend to be sidetracked by some simple issue which is unnecessary and uncalled for. But at the same time, you have to overlook it, travel, have fun and succeed out there. I will keep up with that fun.”

The man, who was grown up under a tin-roofed shack on the outskirt of Kingston, Jamaica, experienced the poverty and struggled to become a famous cricketer. So he said as a cricketer he would like to give the first copy of his book to the Real Madrid and Portuguese star  Cristiano  Ronaldo, who like Gayle also struggled to become the famous football star.

It is well-known fact that Gayle is a big fan of Ronaldo.

“I will give the first copy to Cristiano Ronaldo. I read his book and had read about the struggle he has grown through. Grown up as a kid, struggled, gained lot of experience then went on excel and then became a big superstar as well. So, I can say I have also grown up in a similar fashion like him. Most of the stuff Ronaldo has done on the field. But he was not given that much credit as much as he deserved, and the same goes for me as well,” Gayle said.

He was also asked why the name of the book is “Six Machine”.  Gayle, like his flamboyance character,  said, “Six machine is basically about being so dominant on the field. I’ve hit over 700 sixes and this actually sums it up. People have actually liked it and they have gravitated and entertained by seeing lots of sixes. Most of the people must have said ‘Six Machine’, so the name actually kind of sinks in. So this is how we came across this name. It’s a fantastic name and I really liked it.”

Gayle also feels his book will ‘inspire people’ as it has a story of a shy and skinny cricketer   journey to become a great cricketer.

Meanwhile, Gayle was asked about two things that he has not mentioned in the biography.

So Gayle replied, “I can’t say it on TV (giggles). There are more than two things I haven’t mentioned in the book. Maybe I will reveal it in the next book. Maybe I can be a bit rawer in that other book.”

The destructive batsman is also known for his quick fire innings in T20I cricket. He has two World T20 laurels. In his career, he blew away many bowlers with sheer disdain.  So which bowler did he find easy to go after?

“Shoaib Akhtar. It’s so easy to demolish him (just kidding). Akhtar is too fast. Bowlers always create difficulties for batsman especially spinners when you tour the sub-continent. It’s always tricky on slower wickets.”

Talking about Virat Kohli he said, the Indian run machine “is a good player.”

The left-handed  batsman was also asked about  his inspiration. Gayle said, “because of the struggle we faced and what all we have gone through is what inspired me.”

Gayle, the Royal Challengers Bangalore cricketer, said the favorite innings of his T20 is the career-best 175 against Pune Warriors at Chinnswammy Stadium.
