Stats: List of Five Batsmen With Highest Average In Successful ODI Run Chases

Cricket is the game of glorious uncertainties which has further witnessed the modern-day batsman making run-chase ridiculously easy on any of the batting surfaces which has been helped the different units in general.

Pertinently, the phenomenal figures also include the current top quality batsmen, as former Australian is also listed among the list of five, who has further enjoyed the successful run chase, in the white-ball cricket.

The list also includes two veterans of the game from India, as the contemporary cricket has witnessed the Men in Blue held head high of a nation.

Sportzwiki has compiled a list of five ODI batsmen following the successful ODI run-chase, in terms of a batting average.

5. Joe Root averages 81.25:

Joe Root, who has been touted as next big thing for England, is placed fifth in the all-time list of the successful ODI run chases while averaging at 81.25.

The 26-year-old top-order Yorkshire-born batsman Root is averaging 49.37 in 87 innings of 92 ODIs. He has scored 3,802 runs and remained not out for 10 times.

The right-handed batsman Root racked up 10 hundreds and 22 fifties during his ODI career. He has the highest score of unbeaten 133.4.

4. AB de Villiers averages 84.66:

The South Africa batting mainstay AB de Villiers has being a prominent face in the ODI set-up for the Proteas national side.

De Villiers, who has had also gone through the lean patch during his career, in general, has earned the praise for his pyrotechnics. In successful run chases, de Villiers averages 84.66 in ODIs and is listed fourth in place.

The wicketkeeper Pretoria-born 33-year-old batsman de Villiers has featured in 222 ODIs in which he is averaging at 53.55.

He has smashed 24 hundreds and 53 fifties, as he scored 9319 runs.Interestingly, de Villiers average is 100.25, as he remained not out 39 times.

3. Michael Bevan’s average was 86.25:

The left-handed former Australian batsman Michael Bevan is still maintaining the third spot in the most successful run-chases.Owing to his knack for playing an integral role in run-chases for the quality side like Australia, Bevan has been the long-term batsman, particularly in the 50-over format.

The Belconnen-born 47-year ex-batter played 232 ODI for Australia in which he scored 6,912 runs at an average of 54.58.In the list of run chases in ODIs, Bevan, averaged at 86.25 while chasing the target successfully set by different oppositions during his career particularly while doing the colored jersey.

Bevan has smashed six hundreds and 46 fifties in his ODI career.

2. Virat Kohli averages 97.68:

During the ongoing series against Sri Lanka, the 28-year-old batting star Virat Kohli, who has succeeded Mahendra Singh Dhoni as a skipper is enjoying the success as a leader.

The flamboyant right-handed batsman Kohli has been scoring runs at his will and he eventually became a massive asset for India, as a batsman while chasing down the daunting totals.

The 28-year-old Delhi-born middle-order batsman Kohli, who has been known as ‘master’ in run-chases, has smashed 28 hundreds and 44 fifties in 191 ODIs, as he is averaging at 54.88.

In the most successful run chases, Kohli is placed at No.2 with the average of 97.68, as the not out factor is the add-on for improving the average.

The former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni is topping the charts with the whopping average of 99.16, as his successor Virat Kohli is not far from him – to gain the lead in the minimum of 1000 runs.

Dhoni is hailed as the best finisher and he has proved again and again, as the latest example came in the second ODI in Kandy where he scored unbeaten 45 off 68 deliveries.

The Ranchi-born Dhoni, who is known for flexing his muscles, since past one decade has played a significant part in India’s run-cahses and has further been a good finisher of the limited-overs format owing to the occasional jinx.

The entertainer on the cricket field has made things miserable during his prime for the bowlers, as he still possesses the same attitude of finishing the game at the top while being one of the fittest cricketers at the age of 36.

So far, Dhoni has featured in 298 ODIs and smashed 64 fifties and 10 hundreds and 64 fifties at an average of 51.57.
