Continuing his red-hot form in the ongoing Test series, Cheteshwar Pujara played a stunning knock of 193 in the ongoing fourth Test. Starting the day on 130, Pujara looked solid as ever and looked well set to complete his double ton. However, he offered an easy back to Nathan Lyon and missed a well-deserved milestone by just 7 runs.
But he still ended up creating and breaking quite a few records. So here is a look at those numbers:
1. Cheteshwar Pujara became the first visiting player in the last 70 years to bat 300+ balls in an innings in consecutive Test matches in Australia. The feat was previously achieved by India’s Vijay Hazare when he faced more than 300 balls in both innings of the 1948 Adelaide Test match.
2. Since the start of 2017, Indian batsmen have faced over 300 deliveries only on four occasions in a Test inning. Incredibly, Pujara has been the batsman to do that on all the four occasions. He faced 525 balls against Australia in the Ranchi Test, 362 balls against Sri Lanka in the Nagpur Test, 319 balls in the previous game and 373 ball for his latest knock.
3. His 193 is the highest score by an Indian in Australia since the monumental 241 by Sachin Tendulkar in 2004. Overall, it is the fifth highest score by an Indian on the Australian soil.
4. Pujara has so far amassed 521 runs in the series. His tally is the third most by any Indian in a Test series against Australia. Virat Kohli and Rahul Dravid scored 692 and 619 runs respectively during the 2014/15 and 2003/04 Australia tours.
5. Pujara has so far faced a staggering 1,258 balls in the series which is the most by an Indian in a Test series in Australia surpassing Rahul Dravid’s 1203 balls in the 2003/04 tour.
6. Cheteshwar Pujara has batted approximately 1869 minutes in this Test series thus far. It is the third most by an Indian in a Test series. Sunil Gavaskar had batted 1,978 minutes against Windies in 1971 and 1,976 minutes against England in the 1981/82 series.
