A Look At India’s Future Batting Order That Would Go For Champions Trophy
So considering the Champions Trophy in mind and having just 8 matches in hand, Dhoni’s team should start to think about the team Combinations.
In this Article, I will just be talking about The batting order.
With a vulnerable middle order and inclusion of relatively new and inexperienced players, Dhoni and coach Anil Kumble have a job to do.
Starting right from The Openers.
Definitely, it would be Rohit Sharma starting the innings for India but who will occupy the other slot is still questionable?!
With Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul injured, Ajinkya Rahane has taken up the responsibility to open. But after these two being fit again, it will be an interesting situation, to say the least.
In the recent while, Shikhar Dhawan hasn’t been performing and his form has dipped. Thus the openers slot has become a debatable
topic. Otherwise, Shikar would have been the obvious choice considering his aggressive style and the left-right combination.
With the magical emergence of KL Rahul, who has already replaced him in Tests, it looks likely he is set to do that in ODIs soon.
During the T20 match against WI, Rahul came to bat at number 4 and mostly this is a spot that Dhoni will ask him to bat and with that Ajinkya Rahane will be made to open the innings as Ajinkya has always been an opener but just because of the situations he had to bat at the different position.
With that consistency and the ability to tackle the new ball and the swinging deliveries in England, he should be given a long run as an opener as per me. Without any doubt, at no 3 we will have Virat Kohli whose always been a star. It will take a whole new article to talk about him, but I will end this with one line – Your best batsman bats at no. 3.
At no. 4 again the things get interesting with KL Rahul and Manish Pandey having a go at it. With Dhoni wanting to bat at no 5, it will be a situation where one of them have to sit out, sadly.
With the inclusion of Suresh Raina in recent series, he will be given the task of finishing the games. Having him in the team gives Dhoni the flexibility to bat up or down. But if he fails, it will again be a headache for Dhoni. In this case, Dhoni will again have to take up the job of finishing, meaning Manish Pandey to bat at 5.
At no 7 it will be most probably Hardik Pandya thanks to his hard-hitting ability. Dhoni has given hints that he be given a long run wanting him to be a part of the team for champions trophy.
Also, he made his dream debut by winning the man of the match with figures of 3/31. But he will have to prove his batting ability.
So basically the batting order for Champions Trophy I think most likely will be – Rohit, Ajinkya Rahane, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul/Manish Pandey, M.S. Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Hardik Pandya.
