M.S.Dhoni - The Untold Story: Review: Movie fails to justify its title 1

The day which every cricket fan was desperately waiting for has finally arrived. Today is the day when the biopic of India’s most decorated skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni titled ‘M.S.Dhoni – The Untold Story hits the theatre. The trailer was a massive hit and the cricket-crazy fans were waiting to get an insight about their beloved cricketer’s personal life.  So without further ado, we are giving our review of one of the most-anticipated movies of the year.

Story:

Dhoni’s journey from a  T.C. in Indian Railways to the pinnacle of world cricket is the base of the movie. Dhoni’s journey from a middle-class boy to the biggest cricket star of the country is nothing short of inspirational. Born in a small town like Ranchi, a young boy dreams of donning the Indian jersey. Dhoni’s decision to pursue a career in cricket is very dramatic as he was interested in football but destiny has planned something else for him. Anyway, he started playing cricket and his meteoric rise saw him making waves on cricket field.

The likes of Yuvraj Singh and Mohammad Kaif, who were Dhoni’s contemporary in domestic cricket, had started playing for the Indian team while Dhoni was still working as a T.C. in Railways. Deeply frustrated and depressed with the turn of events, Dhoni decided to quit his job in a bid to focus more on the game. He is finally rewarded for his hard work when he was selected in the Indian team and as they say, the rest is history. The small town boy took India to unprecedented heights in Indian cricket with the six that he hit at the Wankhede to win the World Cup being the pinnacle of his career.

Well, cricket-wise, the movie is bound to give the fans goosebumps but the fans will be disappointed with the story of the movie. It is quite clear that the fans across the country were interested in knowing about the personal life of Dhoni but the movie has rarely shown any unknown interesting story about his life. It is quite safe to say that director Neeraj Pandey has failed to make a biographical film and instead made a typical Bollywood film.Had it been a biopic, we are sure that the movie had shown Dhoni’s elder brother but unfortunately there was no character playing his role in the movie. There are rumours that everything is not well between the two brothers right now but moulding the story according to convenience is one of the biggest things that should not be done in a biographical film. The movie also did not show Dhoni’s ex-girlfriends like Laxmi Raai and Deepika Padukone.

The movie also shows how Dhoni met Sakshi Dhoni apart from showing his relationship with ex-girlfriend Priyanka Jha.

Overall, we will say that the movie is bound to inspire the audience but they will be left disappointed if they wanted to watch the movie to know some unknown stories about Dhoni’s life.

Acting:

If the movie becomes a massive hit then not the story but the acting will be the main reason for it. Sushant Singh Rajput, playing the lead role, will leave the audience spellbound with his portrayal of Dhoni. Starting from talking style to playing style, Sushant has stolen the show with his brilliant acting. Undoubtedly, he is the biggest positive from the movie. Kiara Advani, playing the role of Sakshi Dhoni, has been outstanding too. Overall, all the actors have justified their characters in the movie.

Final verdict:

The movie has failed to justify its title. The audience will be disappointed to see that instead of covering the small details of Dhoni’s life, the director has focused more on showing cricket in the game. A typical Bollywood movie, the flick has left no stone unturned to glorify Dhoni. Right from the beginning to the end, the movie has not covered associated with Dhoni. But keeping the negative aspects aside, it is a very motivational movie and we are sure that the cricket-crazy fans of this country will not complain much after watching the movie.
