Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar reckons former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the right person to decide when he wants to retire from international cricket.
Meanwhile, there was widespread speculation about Dhoni’s retirement after the third One-day International at Headingley in Leeds. He asked for the ball from the on-field umpire Michael Gough despite losing the match which ignited the speculations.
Previously, MS Dhoni received an array of criticism following his slow innings in the second and third ODIs respectively. In the second game, he struggled before getting out on 37 runs which came off 59 balls. Furthermore, in the third outing, he departed after scoring 42 off 66.
Despite the head coach Ravi Shastri coming to Dhoni’s rescue, the wicketkeeper-batsman will have to come up with performances in the upcoming series so as to prove his place in the team.
Sachin Tendulkar, at one point in time. also received a lot of questions on his retirement. Recently speaking on the issue, the Master Blaster said that it is up to Dhoni to take a call regarding retirement.
“The player only has to take the call. A player of his calibre, who has been around for a long time, knows what is expected of him. And where he stands. So, I will leave the decision to him,” he told The Mumbai Mirror.
“He has played enough cricket and he understands his game better than anyone else. He understands his own mindset too. So, I think one should leave everything to him. Being a colleague of him, I know of him and I think he is the best person to decide on his career,” Tendulkar added.
Thus, MS Dhoni will have his task cut out during India’s next limited-over assignment in the Asia Cup which is scheduled in September, this year.
