Mahmudullah ruled out of India series

Bangladesh batting star Mahmudullah Riyad was ruled out of the home series against India after he fractured his finger.

Mahmudullah was hit in the nets and a scan later revealed that he had fractured a finger. As a consequence, he will miss the entire series against India. This will be a massive blow to the plans of the Bangladeshis. Mahmudullah was the batting sensation for the Bangla Tigers in the 2015 World Cup as he notched up back to back tons against England and New Zealand. His absence will leave a huge void in the middle order.

“Mahmudullah hurt the index finger on his left hand while attempting a catch during training today,” team physiotherapist Baizidul Islam told reporters in Dhaka. “X-rays revealed a fracture which usually takes three to four weeks to heal.”

In threatening news for the Bangladeshis, ODI skipper Mashrafe Mortaza injured his hands after his cycle rickshaw was pushed by a bus. Even before the series commences, the home side has been marred with injuries. However, officials said that Mortaza would get fit in time for the ODIs.

As of now, the Board has not named any replacement for Mahmudullah. In his absence, the responsibility of handling the middle order will be entirely on the shoulders of Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim.
