Victorian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis has been named as a replacement for Mitchell Marsh, who will be missing the remainder of the Pakistan series due to an injury.
On Sunday, Mitchell Marsh was included in Australia’s 16-member squad to tour India and later in the evening, post the MCG match, he was ruled out after he complained about the growing pain in his right shoulder.
Stoinis will take part in Melbourne Star’s clash against Brisbane Heat on Tuesday night and then will fly to the Western part of Australia to join the squad for the third One-Dayer, which starts on Thursday (January 19th).
The 27-year-old has played just one ODI before, against England in September 2015, and also represented Australia A in last year’s Queensland-based Winter Series, scoring a first-class hundred against South Africa A.
The all-rounder was, though, dropped from the Stars’ side recently, but was brought back in later on, after which he scored an unbeaten 40 to guide his side past the winning line.
The second One-Dayer between Australia and Pakistan’s favour after the visitors produced a dominating performance with the ball with first, to restrict the hosts to just 220 and later put pressure on them with some good display of batting. Pakistan stand-in captain Mohammad Hafeez termed the win over the Aussies as a ‘Special, special blessing’.
