It is cognisance of the fact that cricket has a rich tradition of using nicknames. At the same time, the sport has also produced hilarious, catchy and memorable nicknames. We have also seen a player calling another player with a nickname, but when the friendship zone between the two becomes strong, then things can get a little more interesting.

Case in point, prolific Indian spinner and notable New Zealand opener Martin Guptill get along well with each other, and the cricket fraternity has witnessed more of it on the field. In early January, Team India jetted off to New Zealand. During the 2nd T20I match, a hilarious incident was recorded on the field which might be unforgettable for any Indian fan.

Where it all started

During India’s tour of New Zealand, Virat Kohli and Co clinched an emphatic victory against New Zealand by seven wickets in 2nd T20I game of the five-match series. Soon after the match, both team players were seen giving a customary handshake as a token of respect.

However, at the very moment, India’s wrist spinner Yuzvendra Chahal took the mic in his hands for his popular chat show ‘Chahal TV’, where he is fond of taking interviews of Indian cricketers.

All of a sudden, Chahal had a casual interaction with Martin Guptill, but that backfired him. The moment he went to the New Zealand opener for the interview, the latter hilariously called him G*ndu which left Chahal and Rohit Sharma in splits. For a fact, the 33-year-old Guptill is not aware of the Hindi language. Perhaps, he might have thought it as the right word that probably led to such a hilarious instance at the end of the match.

On Monday, Yuzvendra Chahal shared a screengrab on his Instagram story in which Martin Guptill sent a message in Hindi. In that screenshot, it can be seen that New Zealand had typed a message, “How are you G@&$u?.”

It didn’t take time for Yuzvendra Chahal to take a screenshot of the same and share it on his Instagram story through his official Insta handle in which he wrote: “@martyguptill31 come again, bro.”
