It Feels Great To Be The Part Of No.1 Test Team: Mayank Agarwal

Mayank Agarwal had a fantastic 2019, concerning his performance. He is the only Indian player who is in the list of Top 10 run-scorers in Test cricket in 2019. He believes that his journey has been different from other players.

Mayank Feels Great To Contribute No.1 Test Team

In the Broder-Gavaskar Trophy 2018/19, Mayank scored his maiden half-century. He was lucky to get the chance as Prithvi Shaw got injured ahead of that series. Later, Mayank could not create an impact with his performance against West Indies when India toured the Caribbean after the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.

He then showed prolific performance in the home Test series against South Africa and Bangladesh. In both those home series, he scored one double-century. He has now made the permanent place in the longest format in the Indian National Cricket team after showcasing tremendous performance in 2019. He was recently among the top 10 in the ICC Test batting rankings. Mayank said that he is happy to contribute to the No.1 Test team.

“I just took it one game at a time, put my head down and gave it my best shot each time, every single day. It feels great to contribute to the team. More importantly, what’s most satisfying is that India is the No.1 team in the world,” Mayank said.

Mayank Agarwal on his journey

The Test opener Mayank Agarwal had a tough competition with the other cricketers to gain the place in the Indian team. He opines that he had to work hard on the domestic side to prove his worth. He was the part of the Karnataka team who won both the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019-20 and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019-20.

“I think I would say that my journey has been different from many others. I’ve quite liked it. Yes, I have had to play a lot of domestic games, which in hindsight has helped me a lot. Playing those games helped me become a better player,” Mayank said.
