India is ready to give a tough fight to South Africa in the home ground, it was said by the young Player Mayank Agarwal. Mayank is hoping to play in the Test Series against these visitors.
Mayank made his Test debut last year at MCG. He has learnt a lot from his batting position as he has faced new balls from the bowlers like Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc. He then was seen playing in West Indies Soil where India swiped the host by 2-0 in the Test series. Though his performance was not satisfactory in that Caribbean tour he has gained lesson from them.
Mayank opined that he was eager to get chance in home ground and apply what he learnt till now.
“Playing at home is always special and I’m really looking forward to the series. I’m working on what I’ve learnt and I’m eager to go out and put those lessons to use against South Africa and have a good series at home,” Agarwal told Times of India.
He shares his experience in the Carribean ground and praises Kemar Roach’s bowling.
“It was a learning curve about personal expectations, different conditions and situations we came across. We played with the Dukes ball, the conditions were hot and it was a great experience to face Kemar Roach, who bowled really well in the series.”
International cricket is baptism by fire: Mayank Agarwal
As India has won all the Test matches till now in the inaugural edition of ICC World Test Championship 2019-21, with 120 points India tops the table, they will try to retain the position by winning further Test matches. Mayank detects that Team India is very confident and back each other in high and lows.
“We are a very confident unit. We believe in ourselves and are backing ourselves to play the best cricket we can.”
He has played 54 First-Class cricket and scored 4167 runs. Mayank in total has played four Test matches for India since his debut in last year. He feels that international cricket is a tough task and all the time what you think never happens.
“From having a good start to my international career in Australia to facing the West Indies in their backyard, totally different from what I expected or thought. I have come to understand international cricket is baptism by fire.”
