IPL News: England’s Tom Banton Draws Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings’ Interest Ahead Of IPL Auction
England batsman Tom Banton looks set to draw a bidding war between IPL franchises Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. As per a report in dailymail.co.uk, both the franchises have enquired to Somerset, Banton’s club, regarding his availability for the next season.
England’s domestic season and a part of IPL run parallel which sees England’s players give their domestic season a miss.
Banton is a right-handed top-order batsman who is presently part of England’s squad in the ongoing T20I series against New Zealand. Opening the innings in the two practice matches, Banton just scored 17 runs and wasn’t included in the playing XI in first two T20Is. England might wait for a match or two before handing a debut to the youngster.
Banton was second-highest run-scorer in the T20 Vitality Blast. With 549 runs in13 matches, he was second to Babar Azam in the list.
Both Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings have aggressive openers and the addition of Banton to their team will further strengthen their top-order.
Banton has played 17 T20s in which he has scored 591 runs at 39.40 with a strike-rate of 154.30
Meanwhile, all the IPL franchises are set to come up with the list of released players soon as the auction for the next season of the IPL takes place next month. Both MI and CSK are likely to retain most members of their side.
