Mickey Arthur Opens Up His Removal As Pakistan Coach
Mickey Arthur’s contract as a Pakistan coach was not renewed after the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. Pakistan had a disappointing start in that World Cup and they failed to qualify for the knockout stages of that tournament. This lead to the removal of coach Arthur and also the whole coaching staff was changed.
Arthur showed his interest to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to continue as the coach. But the like of Misbah-ul-Haq has taken the opportunity from him. Misbah-ul-Haq got the contract of the head coach and chief selector for the next three year. Waqar Younis also got the contract of a bowling coach.
Mickey Arthur opens up his rejection from PCB. He said that he was not happy with such acts of the board as he trusted them a lot.
“I guess the only disappointment I have out of the whole lot is that there were some people I really trusted who ultimately didn’t follow through. I’m not talking about the hierarchy; I’m talking about people on the cricket committee that I did trust who sort of said one thing and ultimately did another. So that was the disappointing aspect of it,” Arthur told ESPNcricinfo.
Arthur opined that he recommended Misbah and Wasim Akram‘s name to the PCB chairman Ehsan Mani when the committee was being set up the first time. It was ironic that Misbah replaced Mickey Arthur.
“Those were guys I endorsed and guys I enjoyed. As I say, they had a job to do and they decided it was in the best interests of Pakistan cricket to go with a fresh set of eyes. And it just happened to be that Misbah was on the committee that didn’t renew our contracts and becomes this heir-apparent,” the South African stated.
Mickey Arthur Wishes Misbah ul Haq for future
Under Arthur’s Coaching, Pakistan gained the no. 1 position in T20I and Test Cricket. Pakistan also lifted the 2017 ICC Championship trophy under him. But the start of this year was not good for Pakistan as the team was swiped by Australia and England. Then it was followed by the failure to make the place in the semifinals in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. This led to the removal of Arthur. He concluded that he enjoyed the time with boys and also wished Misbah-ul-Haq for the future.

“Ultimately Misbah will do a good job, Misbah is a good guy and Pakistan cricket made their decision. I was disappointed because I loved every second of that job,” he added.
Currently, Mickey Arthur is selected as the coach of Central Stage for the Super Smash T20, domestic cricket of New Zealand.
