Just after a year or so when Sri Lankan team were attacked in Pakistan and cricket completely took a back seat, Pakistan cricket took another bullet in the chest. Pakistan cricket was in shambles after spot-fixing in 2010, one old horse Misbah Ul Haq was given the responsibility of captaining the squad.

That was the time when Pakistan as a country was in the crisis. Terrorism was in full go, mosque, temples were being attacked on a regular basis and Pakistan cricket was in the crisis as well. Their leader then Salman Butt with his teammates Mohammed Amir and Mohammed Asif were charged for Spot-fixing and were banned from International Cricket the next World Cup was in line.

It was a time when most of former cricketers were demanding for permanent ban on Pakistan Cricket team. Every Pakistani cricket fan would not want to go back on that time, all thanks to a man who made it easy for them to forget about that hard time and pave way for a resurgent Pakistani squad from that shambles. An educated, matured mind was announced as a leader, there were few questions raised as well but a sense of belief in him was there. People were expecting him to take Pakistan Cricket forward. Misbah Ul Haq may not be regarded as one of the world’s best batsman but it is certain that Misbah will be rated as one of the best captain of his time. Misbah ul Haq is one “Matured” mind present in the world cricket. Digging out Pakistan team from dark days to making that team a New Numero Uno side in ICC Test Cricket Ranking takes some hard task. Misbah last year won the ICC Mace for the country.

Since Misbah took charge of Pakistan Squad, results do not really matter the most but it was like there they have someone take this step by step forward from where they were standing.

He became permanent member of the squad just a year before, in 2009, before that Pakistan middle order didn’t have a place for him. He was not that a big name in Pakistan Cricket with likes of Inzamam, Younis Khan but he was one experienced player whom PCB and Pakistan fans could trust. Soon he earned that respect among his players and started working towards some good for Pakistan Cricket.

If we look at his stats as a captain Misbah ul Haq has won 10 more games than the great Imran Khan and Javed Miandad who are considered as great Pakistani captains. In 53* games so far, Misbah has won 24 games and lost 18. If we talk in terms of series, Pakistan has played under him, they won 10 out of 19 series they played.

Recently Pakistan drew series in England and regained the first place in ICC Rankings. This man finally bids adieu at the age 42 and will be leading the team one last time in Caribbean Islands. So, if I rate Misbah as the greatest Pakistani Captain or a leader who brought change in team’s luck, I don’t think many would disagree!
