The Indian Women’s cricket team almost scripted history a few days back when they were within touching distance of their maiden World Cup title but faltered in the final hurdle to eventually surrender the match to hosts England, helping them lift their 4th World Cup title.
Despite the heart breaking loss in the final, the girls were being praised from every quarter for their exceptional performance in the tournament.
India was the only side to beat England in the group stages and then trounced New Zealand and Australia in must win matches to go through to the final. It was a sensational team effort by the girls which helped them reach the final for the 2nd time in their history.
Despite their nine run loss, they were given a warm reception when the girls returned to their homeland. Within few days the names of Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana were becoming household names and in turn, it was also encouraging youngsters to take up the sport.
In a similar sort of an incident captain, Mithali Raj replied to a cute video posted by one of her fans on the social media where a baby girl is seen wearing an Indian jersey with a bat in her hand. She goes on to say, “I am the captain of the Indian cricket team.” The father of that girl thanked Mithali for inspiring his daughter.

India began their campaign on a perfect note by defeating hosts England in the opening encounter. They continued their good work by winning the next three matches against Windies, Sri Lanka and Pakistan but consecutive losses at the hands of Australia and South Africa put them under pressure. They had to win the last group game against Kiwis and they came out with a stupendous performance.
In the Semi-final against Australia, it was an exceptional inning of 171 hit by Harmanpreet Kaur which eventually turned out to be the difference between the two teams. It was sublime hitting by the Punjab girl which helped India qualify for the final.
