Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah were subjected to racial abuse but a day after India officially lodged a complaint with the ICC, six spectators were asked to leave the ground with the Hyderabad pacer once again subjected to crowd trouble on day four of the 3rd Test during the second session.

Subsequently, the play was stopped briefly for around 10 minutes in the afternoon session. After about 10 minutes of on-field discussions, security staff and police made their way to the stands to talk to the crowd.

Mohammed Siraj Was Bowling 25th Over When The Incident Occurred

The incident happened after the 86th over of the Australian 2nd innings which was the end of Mohammed Siraj’s 25th over near the square boundary and play subsequently came to a halt after Indian skipper Ajinkya Rahane walked up to the square-leg umpire.

The Indian team soon huddled together and after animated discussions between Ajinkya Rahane, the umpires Paul Reiffel and Paul Wilson walked towards the boundary line, this time talking to the security officials.

The security officials then had a conversation with a few people from the crowd specifically a group of young men and a couple and asked them to leave. Later Cricket Australia released a statement condemning all forms of discriminatory behaviour after the incident.

Mohammed Siraj And Jasprit Bumrah Were Racially Abused Earlier As India Lodged Official Complaint

On Saturday, Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah were racially abused by members of the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) and following the incident, the Indian team management was quick to register an official complaint with the local ground staff and subsequently with the ICC which is investigating the matter.

The ICC has started investigating the issue but this latest development comes on the back of some friction between two sides due to the stringent Covid-19 protocols in place for Brisbane which will host the fourth and final Test match. In the 3rd Test at Sydney, India have been set a daunting target of 407 to chase by the hosts.

Australia scored 338 and 312/6 declared while India scored 244 and are presently 47/0. In Australia’s 2nd innings, Marnus Labuschagne scored 71, Steven Smith scored 81 and Cameron Green scored 84. India still needs 360 more runs to win.
