The former Indian skipper, MS Dhoni will soon be seen donning the yellow jersey of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL 2020). The wicketkeeper with the skills of fine middle-order batsman will join the rest of the squad members of the banner from March 1st.
After being off the ground for more than six months, Dhoni will finally be seen in action for the Chennai based franchise in the famous cricket league of India. However, it will be the first time for Dhoni to be arriving this early for the season. Before this season, he was forehand busy for Men in Blue and thereafter, arrived for the IPL practice a few days ahead of the starting of the league.
“He is expected to arrive on March 29. He will probably train for a couple of weeks before going back for 4-5 days and then coming back again closer to the start of the IPL,” sources close to the development told TOI.
Dhoni’s long sabbatical has the fans, and the critics guess speculations regarding his retirement from the national jersey. And then his name being dropped out from the annual contract with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) worked as the fuel to the fire.
Ever since India’s drop out from the coveted ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 in the semi-final clash versus New Zealand, Dhoni has been absent from the game. Although he kept himself busy enjoying the leisure time in exploring other games, he returned to the cricket ground a few weeks ago. Dhoni was witnessed practising with the youngsters at the Jharkhand State Cricket stadium.
MS Dhoni likely to be joined by Suresh Raina and Ambati Rayadu on the nets
Dhoni will also be joined by the likes of Suresh Raina and Ambati Rayadu in the first week of March. While other players of the team will also join the nets soon, the official camping for the banner will commence from March 10th, as per the sources.
“Raina and Rayadu had been training here for the last three weeks. They are going back and then joining again on March 2. Players who are available at that time will also join. The official camp starts from March 10.”
The three-times champions of the league will look to add another glory to their shelf in the forthcoming season. Over the past IPL seasons, CSK has been the major attraction for the cricket fans coming in to watch the cash-rich league. For the practice sessions alone, the Dhoni-led banner had attracted crowds of more than 10,000 at the Chepauk Stadium. And with Dhoni coming in after a long break from cricket, the stadiums will be exploding with fans to watch the former Indian leader in action.
