MS Dhoni, CSK skipper admitted that his team was not up to the mark against Delhi Capitals. Shreyas Iyer-led Capitals batted first to post 175 on the board with opener Prithvi Shaw leading with a 64-run knock. In reply, CSK were never really in the game as they could only manage 131 for seven in their 20 overs.
CSK lost their second successive match after their 16 run defeat to Rajasthan Royals. They won the opening match against Mumbai Indians though by five wickets.
MS Dhoni Admits Match Against Delhi Capitals ‘Not A Good Game’ For CSK:
Chennai Super Kings leader MS Dhoni admitted that it was not a good match for CSK as they were handed a comprehensive 44-run defeat by table-toppers Delhi Capitals in the 7th match of IPL 2020 in Dubai on Friday. CSK were outplayed in pretty much all three departments of the game.
“I don’t think it was a good game for us,” Dhoni said in the post-match presentation.
After being asked to bat first by CSK, Delhi Capitals posted a well made 175 on the board with opener Prithvi Shaw scoring 64. He was well supported by opener Shikhar Dhawan (35) and wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant (37 not out).
In reply, CSK were never really in the game as DC spinners Amit Mishra and Axar Patel spun a web both conceding less than 25 runs and pacer Kagiso Rabada picked up three wickets towards the end of the innings as CSK could only manage 131 for 7 in their stipulated 20 overs. Anrich Nortje picked up two and Axar Patel returned with a wicket under his belt.
MS Dhoni Highlights CSK Need To Figure Out Batting And Bowling Combinations
The CSK captain also highlighted the areas that CSK need to improve upon after suffering back to back defeats in the tournament. They need to rework on the batting combination with batsman Ambati Rayudu and all-rounder Dwayne Bravo out
“There was no dew, but the wicket did slow down. We are lacking a bit of steam in the batting and that hurts. The run rate keeps on mounting after such slow starts and adds pressure, we need to figure that out. We need to come back with a clearer picture, looking at the combination.” Dhoni said.
MS Dhoni said the bowlers can get better with the lengths and lines. The bowlers tried out in the match were Deepak Chahar, Sam Curran, Josh Hazlewood, Piyush Chawla and Ravindra Jadeja all of whom bowled their full quota of four overs. Josh Hazlewood came in place of Lungi Ngidi.
“There are quite a few things we can think about. We are one batter extra to start off, so the players need to step up. We need to get better with our lengths, lines and pace. I think the spinners have not come to the party yet. We are bowling good deliveries, but we are giving away the boundary deliveries bit too often.”
CSK now have a six-day break after playing three matches within a week before their next game against Sunrisers Hyderabad on October 2 in Dubai.
