MS Dhoni – The On-Field Calculator For Team India

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the name every household knows from the roadside vendor to businessman – has left an imprint and above all brought the tears of joy to the eyes of cricket crazy nation by bringing coveted trophies one after another.

There are many to talk about Dhoni’s all-round figures, but there are few who actually could understand the man who had enjoyed cricket as a food while giving everything to the game of cricket. Then there are several at the Brabourne Stadium, who could boast about watching Dhoni play for the final time as a captain in colours. Such has been his legacy over the ground for years as a leader.

Remember Joginder Sharma’s last over against Pakistan in Twenty20 2007 World Cup or Dhoni’s stand and deliver smash at Wankhade in the World Cup final against Sri Lanka for a massive six in 2011? He has been a cricketer of such kind while backing his bold decisions.

“Tussi Ja Rahe Ho, Tussi Na Jao,” reads one of the placard in the stands as Dhoni walks to bat at Cricket Club of India in a first warm-up match against England.

For Dhoni fans, his exit as a captain is as emotional as his appearance in cricket after becoming a ticket collector.

The crowd went wild after he made an appearance into the crowd with a bat. He has smashed unbeaten 68 off 40 balls in which he scored 23 in the last over of an innings on the bowling of Chris Woakes.

It seemed he’s literally retiring from International cricket such has been the atmosphere in the stadium before an intruder breached the security to shook hand with Dhoni in the middle of a ground.

The 35-year-old Dhoni has symbolised the modern day Indian cricket well who has hell lot of patience and confidence instilled in him. Dhoni as a leader has maintained cool-head under extreme pressure to earn the success at his will.

The former Indian skipper has been exceptional in calculation while running high on his sheer luck before going through a lean patch.

At the behest, his best of the adjectives lies in his superb performances for the country in nutshell before bidding adieu to a captaincy in the limited-overs cricket to make a way for Virat Kohli on January 6.

Kohli has shouldered the responsibility to prove his mettle at the platform where things happen all of sudden. It won’t be that easy for Kohli as he would have had thought.

Dhoni from the grubby maidans,  rose humbly to hold the football in Ranchi before pouncing on the cherry with his cricketing gloves to carve a niche out of it. He has marshalled his troops behind the stumps which wasn’t that easy, but he made it look ridiculously easy.

Dhoni, who donned the jersey number seven, has been at the helm of affairs for Indian cricket since 2007 after joining the national side in ODIs in 2004 before amassing the huge fan following in terms of his dynamic leadership qualities and understanding of the game in all three formats.

The captain cool has his own trademark shot as helicopter swoop. He has impressed fans with his long hair strands in his early days of his career.

Dhoni has been immaculate in style and equally apt during the press conferences before equally giving back to the critics. Dhoni has been phenomenal in his own way.

Wicket-keeper batsman shouldered the responsibility of his young team through thick and the thin to emerge as one of the superheroes in Indian cricket.

The entrance of Dhoni in Team India has been a story of great success for modern cricket in India which was followed by grand milestones in the span of 13-odd years in his cricketing career.

While finishing the matches in his style, Dhoni has not been considered as the man with perfect technique, but he was the man of calibre.

Dhoni’s biggest achievement came after winning the World Cup in 2011, which India won after 28 years owing to his exemplary batting display in the final against Sri Lanka.

After World Cup when the Indian team struggled to give acceptable performances what they had achieved in the previous two years, Dhoni turned to an aeroplane mode to become a lone warrior for the ODI team on many occasions when his side was down and out.

Dhoni became the first captain in ODI history to set a record century while batting at No.7 against Pakistan at Chennai in 2012. He scored magnificent 113 after walking at the crease when India was teetering at 29 for 5.

Giving hundred percent on the field Dhoni has been the most successful Test captain for Team India. He has never boasted about what he has achieved, but we have been the prime witness to his merry run.

Ranchi-born lad has become the first captain in cricketing history to win all three major global events which included the victory in Twenty20 World Cup in 2007 followed by ODI World Cup in 2011 and Champions Trophy in England in 2013.

Passionate Dhoni at times ran out of breathing while bowling for his team. The productive middle-order batsman, who smashed willow like an Axe has become the post 2,000 sensation for India.

One after another, records galore – Dhoni smashed 224, in the 2013 Border-Gavaskar series, against Australia at Chennai in the first Test to become first wicket-keeper from India to achieve this feat. It’s also his best score of his Test career.

Dhoni’s captaincy helped India to earn the No. 1 spot in ICC Test Rankings. He has also received criticism over his Test captaincy before quitting Test cricket while citing a reason of an excessive workload in 2014.

Unorthodox in style, Dhoni averages 38.09 in 90 Test matches and 50.89 in 283 ODIs followed by 35.87 in 73 T20Is.

Nicknamed as ‘Mahi’ he will always be remembered for his overall abilities and keeping behind the stumps after his display of his courageous captaincy.

He’ll never be forgotten for what he has achieved as an individual and above all for his team.

With leadership embedded into his DNA, Dhoni has been a celebrated cricketer, who is worshipped as a skipper in India following his methodical leadership and aggressive display of cricket.

Thank You MS Dhoni for entertaining us with your splendid performances as a skipper. Your achievement is commendable and above all a lesson.
