ToggleFormer Australian legend Matthew Hayden has named MS Dhoni as the most influential Indian ODI player in the last decade. Hayden has also had the experience of playing alongside MS Dhoni as both these superstars represented the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise in the IPL.
Dhoni is surely the most successful Indian captain in the history of the game as the former skipper has gone on to win a T20 World Cup in 2007, an ODI World Cup in 2011, and the Champions Trophy in 2013, becoming the only captain in world cricket to have all the 3 ICC trophies.
Matthew Hayden Names MS Dhoni As The Most Influential Indian ODI Player In The Last Decade
Matthew Hayden feels the tag should belong to Dhoni, given he led India to a World Cup win, which the former Australia batsman reckons is a milestone next to none.
“I think it’s really important and significant that MS Dhoni has won a World Cup and a Champions Trophy. That World Cup for me, that’s a real big milestone,” Hayden said on the Cricket Connected Show on Star Sports.
“I have mentioned it before we have played loads of cricket in the one-day format and I just feel that when it comes to being ready for a World Cup, you not only got to have a good leader but you also need to have a calm strong player in the middle order like he has,” Hayden added.
Dhoni Call It Quits From International Cricket Earlier This Year
MS Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket on August 15 this year as he had been away from team India for a long while. The semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 went on to become Dhoni’s last game in the Indian colours.
Dhoni has however, continued playing in the IPL and he will continue to do so in the coming days as the veteran skipper has confirmed that he will play in IPL 2021 for the Men in Yellow and it will be interesting to see how his team bounces back after a humiliating outing in IPL 2020.
