Former Indian captain and renowned commentator Sunil Gavaskar has said that perhaps the Indian captain MS Dhoni ran out of ideas during the match against England in Perth on Saturday. However Gavaskar, at the same time would not like to be too critical of MS Dhoni keeping in view the fact that the grand World Cup is going to start in just two weeks time.
Gavaskar was giving a reply to a question that when India’s most successful bowler Stuart Binny was doing well (3/33) why he was not allowed to his full quota of 10 overs? Gavaskar said you have to ask Dhoni that. It did look that there was shortage of ideas but I would not like to be too critical about India’s performance. I would take these matches (tri-series) as practice games.
The former Indian captain is optimistic that India would do well at the World Cup although a lot of hard work needs to be done. Gavaskar said, “I am an optimistic. Yes I am disappointed with the performance but not dejected.”
Most of the fans of the game are certainly demoralized the way Team India has performed and could not register even a single win on this long away tour. But as suggested by veteran Sunil Gavaskar, we should treat these tri-series matches as practice games through which Indian cricketers have got a valuable exposure. The encounter with Pakistan will set the tone for team India but there is no doubt that in case our cricketers utilize their skill in the most optimistic manner and the team play as one integrated unit, impossible is nothing.
