S Badrinath found his batting talent in T20 cricket while playing for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. The former cricketer heaped praise on Dhoni’s captaincy for his way of handling players and hunting talents.
MS Dhoni is the successful captain of IPL, leading his team to three title wins in 2013, 2015 and 2018. In the last edition, CSK entered the grand finale but faced defeat against Mumbai Indians. Badrinath was the part of the yellow army from 2008 to 2013 and played 95 matches for them. For the first two seasons, he was ineffective but he started churning out runs heavily after that. He scored 1441 runs at an average of 30.65 with the striking rate of 118.89 for CSK.
S Badrinath on the biggest strength of MS Dhoni:
Badrinath reflects on his journey with Dhoni. He said that the wicketkeeper-batsman biggest strength was that he gave an extra chance to players. But Badri also added that Dhoni is stubborn in his decisions and he would not back those players who according to him, are not good enough.
“Dhoni always felt that roles are very important, and most of the time, mine was to get the team out of tough situations,” Badrinath told Hindustan Times in an exclusive chat. “
“My role was there in the middle order. The biggest strength of Dhoni is that he gives players that extra chance. If Dhoni believes Badri is good, that’s it. Badri is there. Once he believes it’s right, he sticks to the process. ‘I will give him chances, let him prove himself.’
“Similarly, if he believes you are not good enough, even god cannot help you. He has his own mindset and sticks to it no matter what.”
Further, Badrinath also praised CSK’s team environment. Simplicity was a major characteristic of CSK which helped him to fit in the culture just well. In 2018, Tamil Nadu player retired from all form of cricket.
