MS Dhoni shone on his much-awaited return to competitive cricket. The Chennai Super Kings’ smashed a magnificent century during a practice match CSK played at their home ground a couple of days back. While the scorecard is not available, it is confirmed that Dhoni scored 123 off 91.

Yes, his strike-rate was a bit of worry for the fans but it is to be noted that Dhoni hasn’t played a competitive match for eight months now. He was dismissed twice during the innings but was allowed to bat again as it was a practice match. CSK will surely play few more practice matches before the start of the season and Dhoni is expected to be back in the groove soon.

CSK is one of the first franchises to kick off the preparations for the season. Likes of Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu and Murali Vijay have attended number of sessions while many star players, including Dhoni, joined the camp earlier this month.

Ravindra Jadeja, Sam Curran, Faf du Plessis, Mitchell Santner, Lungi Ngidi and Josh Hazlewood will be joining the camp after completing their international assignments – Curran and Santner will miss a couple of matches at the start.

The CSK’s team management is leaving no stone unturned and will hope that the players emulate their success in the upcoming season. The three-time champions had lost to Mumbai Indians in the final of IPL 2019.
Going into the upcoming season, the franchise released five players. At the auction, they bought Sam Curran, R Sai Kishore, Piyush Chawla and Josh Hazlewood.

The owners spent bought Sai Kishore (Rs 20 Lakh) and Hazlewood (Rs 2 Crore) at their base price while they had to pay Rs 5.5 Crore for Curran and 6.75 Crore for Chawla.

Although they aren’t expected to get regular chances as the success of the team will rely on likes of Dhoni, Raina, Shane Watson, Harbhajan Singh and other senior players. CSK take on Mumbai Indians in the opening game of the season on March 29.
