Mudgal Committee’s Advocate Niljoy Dutta Says Tainted Player Still Playing In the IPL

The illustrious and glamorous Indian Premier League (IPL) has always been surrounded by one controversy or the other. However, the biggest and the ugliest controversy to strike the league has been the match-fixing scandal. The governing body suspended two big teams in the IPL Rajasthan Royals, and Chennai Super Kings as players and management from both the teams were caught fixing matches in the league, and substantial proofs were found to punish them.

One of the most famous names to be caught in the act was Sreesanth who was later recorded saying that other players in the league were accused, but no further action was taken against them. The famous Mudgal committee’s Niljoy Dutta who has been appointed to clean up the corruption from cricket has stated that several players in the IPL are still playing despite being corrupt.

Dutta said:

“There are tainted players still playing in the IPL. Also, of the six players named in the sealed envelope, three are international players, also, one member of the Indian team did not fulfil his ‘duty’ to fix the match in Mohali and he was subsequently threatened by the Dawood-syndicate. A witness had got close to the suspects but such was the threat that she had to run for her life.”

Dutta also noted that from a list of nine players who have named three have been relieved but for some reason, their names have been kept in a sealed envelope and their names have been kept under wrap.

Dutta also clarified that according to the directions by the Supreme Court he cannot name the three players but said that the three players are still active.

Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar who was responsible for busting the fixing racket has said that only Sreesanth is in the category of suspended as they have substantial proofs against the former fast bowler. However, he also said that he is unaware of the other names in the list and the matter is only between the Supreme Court and the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
