Specialisation in Losing: Shoaib Akhtar Lashes Out at Struggling New Zealand
India and New Zealand will fight in the last and fifth T20I match at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on Sunday (2nd February). The hosts will play the game to maintain some pride while the visitors will head to clean sweep the Kiwis. Constantly losing the matches has led the former Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Akhtar to question Kiwis’s poor run.
New Zealand is having hard luck in the game of cricket as they have lost back-to-back two super over fixtures. In the last seven months, the Kiwis has faced five tied games and lost all of them.
In the fourth T20I match, the game was totally in the hands of Kane Williamson led side but unfortunate Kiwis could not chase down the target.
‘Are New Zealand new chokers?’ Shoaib Akhtar questioned:
Akhtar feels that New Zealanders are not able to handle the pressure. He even questioned ‘are the Kiwi’s new chokers in the cricket world’.
“They have tied six matches and have managed to win only 1 Super Over. Looks like they have done specialization in losing. Despite being a good team they could not achieve an easy target like 166,” said Akhtar on his Youtube channel.
“166 should have been an easy chase, but the Kiwis made life difficult for themselves. This goes to show they don’t have the nerves to handle pressure scenarios. Are they new chokers of the world? Are they the new South Africa who could never win in a tough situation? It’s very sad to see New Zealand struggling like this. I think New Zealand choke under pressure,” he added.
Virat Kohli and Co. know how to control pressure: Shoaib Akhtar
Indian pacer Mohammed Shami and Shardul Thakur defended nine runs (in 3rd match) and 7 runs (in 4th match) in the last over respectively. Their brilliance has led the game to super over.
Akhtar opined that Kohli and his men very well know who to handle the pressure and win the game from a difficult situation.
“India has better nerves, they know how to control such pressure situations so once the match went into the Super Over, they had no chance,” he expressed.
“They somehow don’t know how to cross the line,” Akhtar added.
Meanwhile, the fifth match will be a pride game for New Zealand and this time they will hope the game doesn’t go to super over.
