New Zealand vs Pakistan: Mohammad Amir Blames Dropped Chances For Pakistan woes

The Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has blamed dropped catches for the precarious situation the sub-continent team finds itself in at the end of Day 4 against New Zealand at Hamilton. Pakistan fielders dropped as many as four catches off Amir’s bowling, that’s not all as they fumbled few chances of Wahab Riaz’s bowling as well. This was enough to put Pakistan on a back seat and as the result of these dropped cases, Pakistan has been asked to chase a mountainous target of 369 in the fourth innings in one of the toughest conditions.
“The score of 271 in the first innings when we bowled was on the higher side. We should have got them out for a lower score. Catches also went down – but that’s part of the game,” Amir said on Monday (November 28). “Yes, it affects the bowler when you run from 22 yards and your catch is dropped – you’re disappointed and frustrated.
“But it affects the team more than the individual. I’ve been very unlucky, but I try to be a team man. It’s difficult to keep count, but I think at least 12-13 catches have gone down off my bowling in Tests and about six-seven catches have been dropped in the shorter formats as well,” Amir added.
In total, Pakistan fielders dropped a total of 11 catches off Amir’s bowling since his return. Looking at the form of Pakistan team on this New Zealand so far, by no chance one can expect Pakistan to go for a win on day 5.
The only thing they can do is to put some challenge to New Zealand by playing out a potential 588 deliveries to be bowled tomorrow. Failing to do so will result in a clean sweep which is the last thing that Pakistan want.
