Stop Speculating, I’m Not Eligible For Khel Ratna: Harbhajan Singh

The veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh has quashed all the speculations over his withdrawal from the Rajiv Gandhi Kehl Ratna nominee list by Punjab government. The Punjab-born cricketer last played for India in 2016 and has said that he doesn’t qualify eligibility area to receive the accolade so his name has been withdrawn.

Harbhajan Singh backed Punjab Government’s decision from drawing out his name. He clarified that the player’s performance in the last three years is considered for shortlisting him for the prestigious award.

Last year, Harbhajan could also not qualify because of late submission of his nomination. Taking to Twitter, the spinner wrote a long post to end all the speculations in media and feed right information.

“I have been flooded with calls as to why Punjab Govt withdrew my name from Khel Ratna nominations. The truth is I am not eligible for Khel Ratna which primarily considers the international performances in last three years, ” Harbhajan wrote.

“The Punjab Govt is not at fault here as they have rightly withdrawn my name. Would urge my friends in media not to speculate. Thank you and regards,” he added. 

“Lot of confusion & speculation regarding my nomination for Khel Ratna so let me clarify. Yes last year the nomination was sent late but this year I only asked Punjab Govt to withdraw my nomination because I don’t fall under the 3-year eligibility criteria. Don’t speculate further,” he maintained.

Well, Harbhajan Sing is an Arjuna Awardee and was also conferred with Padma Shri.

His contribution to Indian cricket is well-known. He has played 103 Tests and 236 ODIs has claimed 417 and 269 wickets. The 40-year-old Harbhajan has not yet retired from cricket and continues to play in IPL. Currently, he is playing for Chennai Super Kings under the captiancy of MS Dhoni. Before CSK, he was the linchpin for Mumbai Indians and played them for 10 seasons. With Punjabi dilate, he is also a famous commentator in Hindi.
