Kolkata Knight Riders star Sunil Narine has named the greatest Indian batsman he has played against. The star spinner has been playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) since 2012 and has faced not only the current India stars but also several legendary cricketers who have retired from the game.
In his glittering IPL career so far, Narine has faced the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, MS Dhoni, Rahul Dravid, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and several other big names from Indian cricket. And he recently opened up on his maiden season in the IPL. Narine was signed up by KKR in 2012 and he totally justified the decision by helping his team win the IPL for the first time.
Narine picked up an astonishing 26 wickets in his maiden IPL season as KKR lifted the trophy. He performed well throughout the season and was almost unplayable for most of the batsmen. The West Indies star had an economy-rate of less than 6 in IPL 2012 while his best bowling figures were 5 for 19.
Sunil Narine calls Sachin Tendulkar the greatest Indian batsman:
While recalling his first-ever season in IPL, Sunil Narine hailed the legendary Sachin Tendulkar as the greatest Indian batsman. The spinner lavished praise on Tendulkar while he was recalling the match against Mumbai Indians in which he had dismissed the former Indian batsman. Narine stated that the dismissal was a dream come true moment for him.
“It was a dream come true. There are times in cricket you can do nothing wrong, and that tournament was one of those times. The second [fifth] game I played I got five wickets, getting Adam Gilchrist out first.
“Then playing against Mumbai and getting that wicket of Sachin [Tendulkar] – he is India’s greatest batsman, and knowing as a young cricketer you could get a wicket like that was an achievement,” Sunil Narine told Cricket Monthly.
