Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been ruled out of his team’s upcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023 match against England on November 4, to be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Maxwell, who recently hit the fastest-ever World Cup century, in 40 balls against the Netherlands, suffered a concussion during a golf session and as a precaution has been sidelined from the playing XI.

Maxwell has played all 6 games and scored 196 runs with the best of 106. He scored the fastest World Cup century in just 40 balls against the Netherlands in Delhi recently. He has also taken 4 wickets with his off-spin.

As per the cricket.com.au report, Glenn Maxwell has sustained a concussion for the second time in less than a year, following a golf cart tragedy that has kept him out of the England match in Ahmedabad.

On one of his normal days off, Maxwell had lost his grip on the back of a golf cart on his way back from the clubhouse to the team bus in the early evening. It is assumed that the journey was brief and that there were insufficient carts to seat everyone. He will be treated for concussions for six to eight days.

Australia Coach Andrew Mcdonald Reveals That Glenn Maxwell Is Doing Fine

Last year, Maxwell suffered a badly broken leg when he slipped at a friend’s 50th birthday party and it ruled him for nearly five months. However, Australia coach Andrew McDonald said that the all-rounder was doing well and will begin light training in some days.

“He’s been honest with the information he’s provided. He’s doing fine, he’ll start some light exercises today and we feel as though it will be a reasonably straightforward return to play protocol. Suppose the fortunate part was there was no other injury sustain which could have been a lot worse that it currently is,” McDonald was quoted by ESPNCricinfo.

Think it rattled everyone to be fair once it came to the conclusion there was a concussion and he was going to miss a game. There was nothing untoward in the behaviour throughout the day, it was a clear-cut accident and unfortunately, it’s compromised what we are doing as a team,” he added.

McDonald emphasised that activities such as golf should not be prohibited because it is necessary for players to get away from cricket.

As a result of the additional loss, Australia will need to replace one of their key middle-order players against England, with either Marcus Stoinis or Cameron Green likely to come in, with Marnus Labuschagne preferring to preserve his place in the XI.
