Indian middle order batter Shreyas Iyer feels that Men in Blue batters find themselves lucky not to face Indian fast bowling trio Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj in the game, given their destructive form in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 on home soil.

After India posted a massive total of 357 runs when they batted first, Indian fast bowlers were able to knock out the Sri Lanka side for just 55 runs with an incredible spell of fast bowling in Wankhede, where the Men in Blue registered a historic victory over 302 runs to seal their place in the semifinals of the marquee event.

Speaking to the media, Shreyas Iyer was awestruck by the Indian fast bowlers bowling in the last couple of games, when they nearly rocked the top quality with their pure quality seam and swing bowling, making them quite a formidable weapon for the Indian team going forward in the marquee event.

“Yeah, Looking at today’s bowling and the previous game, definitely we are lucky not to play against them. But at the same time, we batted them at the nets,” Shreyas Iyer said.

Under the powerplay, the Sri Lankan side crumbled to 14/6 because of the absolute nightmare that was Bumrah, Shami, and Siraj offered in Wankhede, with Lankan batters showing no resistance to the high-quality bowling and in the end Mohammed Shami capping it off with 5-1-18-5 figures.

From The Outside, It Was A Bit Different – Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer claimed to have witnessed their performance from the stands at the Asia Cup final. But now that he was in the game, he saw the bowlers’ exceptional skill and their crucial contribution to the team’s triumph and lauded the Indian pacers for standing up for the occasion.

“I think the current bowling attack, it’s pretty hard to say because, in the Asia Cup final, I was sitting out. From the outside, it was a bit different. But now playing on the field, I felt that today’s performance was surreal, especially of the bowlers, and the way they stood up to the occasion,” Shreyas Iyer added.

India’s merciless seven-match victory streak has a common factor. The bowlers have done an amazing job of not just winning the matches but also putting India in a winning position and altering the course of the game in the middle overs, despite the batter order performing regularly.
