Young Indian batter Shubman Gill revealed that he has put more pressure on himself to score his first International hundred for the team. The 24-year-old has been the standout performer across formats in 2023 producing some match-winning performances for the Indian team.

Shubman Gill possesses a critical skill for International cricket as he has the ability to adapt to various circumstances and pitches. His versatility in all formats is evidenced by his constant performances in many contexts, in any condition..

In an interview with GQ India, Shubman Gill talked about how he felt tremendous pressure to get a three-figure score after missing out on a century against Australia when he was dismissed on 91.

“I was sitting there all that time wondering when I was going to hit some big-time runs. Actually, all I need is a start. Once I get that start [snaps fingers] I know that I’m ‘on’. At that time, during the rehab phase, I was desperate to get my first international hundred,”

“Maybe I was trying too hard. I sat there and told myself, You’ve played enough innings, you’ve missed out once in Australia and you don’t want to miss out again. That’s when I realised I was putting too much pressure on myself,” Gill said.

“We won the IPL, I did well, and then I got more chances with the one-day team. I had a good six matches, and that’s when it clicked. Once I got my first hundred in Zimbabwe, I could feel it in me, that I’m going to go off now,” Shubman Gill added.

Following the well-known triumph in Brisbane, Gill finished his recovery program at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), won the IPL with the Gujarat Titans, re-joined the Indian team, and eventually hit his first century in a Test match.
In ODI cricket this year, the 24-year-old batsman has five hundred and six fifty-plus scores. He also smashed a double ton against New Zealand in the Hyderabad ODI in January 2023. In bilateral matches for India, Gill has excelled for the Men in Blue. He also had a remarkable Asia Cup match in Sri Lanka and would be keen to put up a show in the ongoing ODI World Cup in India.
