The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) may face a significant financial obligation if they decide to terminate Inzamam ul Haq’s contract as chief selector following the completion of the ODI World Cup 2023 in India. The team’s poor performance has made it challenging for them to reach the semi-finals. This has led to criticism aimed at Captain Babar Azam and chief selector Inzamam ul Haq over their choice of player for the team.

Despite the thrilling match between Pakistan and South Africa that fans of the game all over the world witnessed, Pakistan is in danger of being eliminated from the group stage after this heartbreakingly close loss. The Men in Green now have four losses and can only score a maximum of 10 points, which is probably not enough to secure a spot in the semi-finals.

According to various reports, If the Pakistan Cricket Board decides to end his term prematurely, sources reveal that the board would be required to pay him a hefty sum of PKR 15 million, which amounts to a monthly salary of 2.5 million rupees over six months.

Documents from a recent PCB management committee meeting indicated that Inzamam-ul-Haq brought up the subject of equal pay for foreign and local coaches. He contended that he should be compensated in US dollars for the amount he is giving up by giving up his contract to work with the PCB. The Pakistan Chief Chairman has demanded a four-year contract with a six-month notice period in case of an early termination, along with a monthly pay of PKR 2.5 million.

The application of artificial intelligence to the selection process was questioned at the conference.  Kaleem A. Khan asked if Inzamam selected teams using AI. Khawaja Nadeem proposed the creation of a database and the provision of such software. Inzamam responded by stressing the value of the committee’s comprehensive evaluation of all relevant elements and on-field performance.

Coming into the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, The Men in Green,  who have lost four games in the competition, are in a scenario that is akin to that of the reigning champions, England. However, Pakistan has one fewer match to play, which implies one fewer match to win. The final group-stage match between the two teams will take place in Kolkata, and if they both win their remaining games, it might turn into a virtual quarterfinal.
