Shreyas Iyer is not having a very good time in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023. The Indian team has more or less qualified for the semi-finals with six wins in six matches and has three more matches to play.

Hardik Pandya has missed two matches thus far as he twisted his ankle during the match against Bangladesh in Pune. He tried to stop a ball on his follow-through and didn’t take field after that injury. Later scans confirmed that Hardik Pandya had sustained a grade 1 strain on his ankle and was ruled out for a few days.

In the end, he ended up missing games against New Zealand and most recently England. In his stead, India brought in Suryakumar Yadav at no.6 and Mohammad Shami was included as well to bolster the bowling.

Hardik Pandya Set To Replace Shreyas Iyer In India XI On Return As Suryakumar Yadav Impresses

According to the most recent news from the Indian camp, Shreyas Iyer would most likely be dropped from the Indian playing XI once Hardik Pandya returns from injury.

Iyer, India’s primary number-four batter, has struggled in this World Cup, and according to a BCCI insider, the Indian team management will consider dismissing Iyer if he fails to score runs in the next game against Sri Lanka.

With the exception of a fifty against Pakistan, Iyer has struggled to convert his starts into large scores and has consistently failed against bowlers who use short-pitched tactics. Even against England, the right-handed hitter had an opportunity to show off his skills, but he fell short.

As per OneCricket report, Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma were pleased with how Suryakumar Yadav performed against England under tough circumstances. As a result, he is likely to get a nod in the Indian XI for the rest of the matches in the tournament. KL Rahul might be asked to move to the No. 4 spot with Suryakumar Yadav coming in at no.5 or even bat at no.4.
