Legendary Pakistan pacer Wasim Akram feels that young Pakistan pacer Mohammad Wasim Jr. has got his rhythm back in the game following his brilliant spell against South Africa in Chennai. After suffering several difficult defeats in the ongoing ODI World Cup in India, the 22-year-old quickly made an impression on the team by replacing Hasan Ali in the playing 11.

Mohammad Wasim Jr. has been a promising young bowler who is a product of the reliable Pakistani pacer pipeline. His inclusion in the team during the T20 World Cup 2022 proved to be a turning point for Pakistan’s campaign and once again turned the fortunes for the team in the ODI World Cup 2023, producing some memorable performances in the marquee event.

Speaking to A Sports, Wasim Akram believes that Mohammad Wasim has regained his confidence in the game after an exceptional bowling performance against South Africa, praising his consistent bowling throughout the match.

“I think he got his confidence, mojo/rhythm back in the game against South Africa. The way he bowled his 10 overs. Maybe he didn’t get any wickets, but he was consistent, fast,” Waseem Akram said.

“We talk about back of a length and most of his deliveries were there today. That’s what one-day bowling is all about. Especially in mid-overs,” Wasim Akram added.

Wasim Jr. gave an exceptional performance against Bangladesh, which helped the Pakistan side to bowl the Bangla Tigers in 45.1 overs and ended up with figures of 3/31 in Kolkata. His pace was consistently above 140+, and he managed to use his swing and pace-off deliver in the game.

He Bowled Beautifully And I Was So Happy For Him – Wasim Akram

Wasim Akram acknowledged his happiness with the young player’s performance and feels that Mohammad Wasim Jr. has been steadily applying pressure to the opposition with his excellent bowling. He also feels that when a bowler bowls well for a considerable amount of time throughout the game, reverse swing occurs in the match.

“Because of putting pressure, he was bowling full. Reverse swing comes good when you bowl this length. He bowled beautifully and I was so happy for him,” Wasim Akram concluded.

With a convincing victory over Bangladesh, Pakistan rose from seventh to fifth place in the 2023 World Cup points standings. At the Eden Gardens, the Men in Green defeated the opposition by seven wickets to end their run of four consecutive losses.
