Pakistan Cup: PCB’s Three-Member Committee To Investigate Umar Akmal, Junaid Khan’s Verbal Spat

The Pakistan Cricket Board on Friday has formed a three-member investigation committee to look into a matter which further witnessed the war of words between two Pakistan teammates Umar Akmal and Junaid Khan during the ongoing Pakistan Cup following a spat after the absence of Junaid prior to the match against Sindh which took Umar by surprise at the toss time.

“I’ve just found out when I walked into the ground that he [Junaid] is absent. I’m very surprised after this development. The manager and coach told me he’s not going to be play. It’s a shocking news for me, as a skipper” Umar said during the toss time against Sindh to Pakistan national television channel PTV Sports.

After Pakistan middle-order batsman Umar Akmal, who has been in the news for all the wrong reasons, was once again seen giving a cheeky reply to Television presenter of Pakistan Television at the toss time when he was asked: ‘any changes taking place in Punjab squad’.

The inquiry committee according to the latest PCB release stated the Domestic Cricket Operations Manager Shafiq Ahmed will head the investigation panel in order to submit the response to the national board.

“The committee will submit it’s findings in this matter as early as possible,” PCB release read.

Pakistan Cup has featured five teams including Balochistan, Punjab, Federal Region, Sindh and KP.

The reports suggested committee will further rope in Punjab manager Ishrat Ali and coach Tanveer Shaukat for the inquiry.

Punjab’s skipper for Pakistan Cup, in reply stated Junaid Khan has been replaced by Nasir, as he has not reached the ground without citing any reason while adding during the pre-match interview; he was not aware what has been happening in a domestic competition.

Following the comments from Punjab skipper, the left-arm fast bowler Junaid in his recent video statement missed the game due to illness.

After the presenter asked: ‘was there any special reason behind that’,

In his response Umar remarked:

“I’m very surprised. The manager and coach told me he’s not going to be playing today. I just found out when I walked into the ground that Junaid is absent”.

However, following the absence of Junaid Khan at Rawalpindi Stadium, who in his video message from hotel room cleared the air by stating it, was sad to hear such remarks from his teammate Umar before, adding he had already informed the management after suffering from food poisoning as team doctor Asad has requested him to take rest.

“I am dealing with a case of food poisoning and the team management is well aware of that. In fact, I was advised by the team doctor to take a rest day. I am saddened to hear Umar Akmal’s remarks that he made on television,” Junaid revealed in the video while terming Umar’s statement ‘shocking’.
