“Pakistan To Host International Cricket Soon” Says Najam Sethi

The Head of Pakistan Cricket Board’s Executive Committee and Pakistan Super League chairman Najam Sethi has indicated that few international teams are in touch with Pakistan Cricket Board and Pakistan will soon host international matches, with top-tier team visiting the country to play international cricket, “We are in the process, as we speak, of finalising the dates [of the series]. I won’t say much more than that. And I hope we will give you some good news, soon,” Sethi said.

From past seven years, no international team has visited Pakistan to play cricket except Zimbabwe, who dared to travel to the country last year to play an ODI and T20I series. They were given presidential level security but ICC did not send their match officials to the country citing security reasons. The controversy did mars over that tour as well as there was a news of suicide bombing near Gaddafi Stadium. It further raised questions over the security system in Pakistan.

Earlier, Najam Sethi also claimed that PSL final will take place in final, he spoke on this matter and said, “We prepared for PSL [final], that it will take place in Lahore. Everyone told us that it is not possible. However, we had planned everything, we had asked players to take a little extra money and we only had to convince 10 players. We had their consent on contracts, we had finalised everything and sealed the deal, and announced it.

“But a blast took place in Quetta, it was a big event. Their [players’] agents started calling that we want to pull out. ‘You said it was safe but it is not’. Whenever a blast happens, everyone runs away.
“We are still trying to work it out. I hope that nothing bad happens till February so that environment becomes conducive. And we have also taken a decision to prepare a second tier of players. Say, we need 10 players in the two finalist teams — each with five foreign players. If some of the players say that we are not ready to play, a few of them have already said that they won’t, then we should have a pool of players who can be drafted urgently,” he explained.

Security is the biggest issue in Pakistan and no player would like to risk his life for some extra money for a matter of just one game. Pakistan has to come out with a permanent solution for this. As of now, any the chances of any team travelling to Pakistan looks dim and bleak but maybe they are serious talk with other board. We may come to hear about the same in a matter of few days, maybe.
