Pakistan Should Provide Security To Resume Cricket At Home: Rajeev Shukla

As the relations have been sour between Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the senior administrator of the Indian cricket body Rajeev Shukla on Friday has suggested Pakistan should provide ample security for the other playing nations – to resume cricketing ties at home.

“They [Pakistan] are failing to provide adequate security at their own venues,” Shukla was quoted as saying by ANI.

Shukla reiterated that they are requesting teams to play at their adopted home in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), in the recent past after Pakistan didn’t play regular games post 2009 which further left country cricket- starved.

“[PCB] are rather asking teams to play in Dubai or some other place,” Shukla maintained.

The 57-year-old Shukla has suggested the neighbouring country should provide the foolproof security in a bid to allow International teams participating in bilateral events in Pakistan.

“Pakistan must provide security to other nations so that the teams can play on their home soil,” Shukla remarked.

While having his point on the India-Pakistan clash which is scheduled on June 4 at Edgbaston, Shukla said they’re bound to participate in the mega event, as they have already signed an agreement.

“This is an ICC tournament. There is an agreement by ICC where every nation has to play as it is an international commitment,” Shukla further said.

Shukla stated if BCCI backs off from such multilateral event they could face the heavy penalty at first instance which would further create a problem for the cricket frenzy nation.

“The refusal of the same led to fine or penalty and could lead to adverse effects. As far as bilateral series is concerned, we will not go ahead with the series until we get our government’s permission because of the security concerns,” Shukla further added.

Shukla added Pakistan had failed to allow other teams to play bilateral matches owing to the poor security measures.

“I would like to ask Pakistan that as to why they don’t provide proper security at their home venues,” Shukla asked.

Earlier, as per the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) agreement signed in 2014, both countries were scheduled to feature in six bilateral series against each other.

Moreover, the Indian Premier League chairman has revealed that until and unless Indian government won’t give a nod to the national team, the bilateral series would not take place in Pakistan.

However, following the tensions escalating at the border as many as four bilateral series are subject to clearance there on.

“So, until we get approval from government, we will not play the bilateral series,” Shukla added.

Meanwhile, PCB and ACB have cancelled the two-match Twenty20 International series after Kabul bomb blast claimed 90 innocent lives and over 400 were left injured.

Following the statement of ACB, PCB has lambasted the stance while calling off the series after.

Since November 2008, India-Pakistan hadn’t featured in a full bilateral series, as they have featured mostly in ICC’s events. It is pertinent to note, after the Lahore gruesome attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team bus in 2009, Pakistan soil didn’t witness a Test match.

However, Zimbabwe has visited Pakistan in 2015 after a heavy contingent of paramilitary troopers guarded the stadium which further saw a heavy contingent of policemen monitoring the activities at various checkpoints.
