Pakistan vs Sri Lanka: 3rd test, Day 1 Report

In the series decider at Palleke, Misbah-ul-Haq won the toss and elected to field first.

The Sri Lankan innings did not start well losing the wicket of Silva for 9 to the bowling of Rahat Ali. Tharanga and Karunathe scored runs from the loose balls. Sri Lanka was looking to score runs at a brisk pace. At lunch, Sri Lanka were 85 for 1 with Tharanga on 39 and Karunathe on 34. Both teams made four changes to their teams.

In the second session, Sri Lanka started off well again scoring 21 runs more before Tharanga was dismissed for 46. Thirmane and Karunathe tried to steady the innings before Thirmane played a rash stroke and was dismissed for 11. Mathews was too dismissed playing a bad shot for 3. Mubarak and Karunathe put a good fighting partnership. At the end of 2nd session Sri Lanka were 152 for 4.

In the third session, Mubarak and Karunathe were playing some good shots, letting the pressure. Karunanthe completed his first test century at home. Mubarak was dismissed for 25 when the score was at 204. Karunathe played an excellent innings before getting out to leg-spinner Azhar Ali and the very next ball Dhammika Prasad was out. Chandimal was the 8th wicket to fall. At the crease were Thindru Kashual and Lakmal.

At the end of day 1 Sri Lanka were 272 for 8. The pick of bowlers for Pakistan was Yasir Shah picking 4 wickets.
