Pakistan vs Zimbabwe 2015: Blast near Gaddafi Stadium injures four

Shashi / 30 May 2015

Pakistan’s security has once again come under scrutiny after a recent blast near the Gaddafi stadium, where the 2nd of 3 match ODI series was being played between Pakistan and Zimbabwe. The blast took place at around 9 pm (PST) yesterday while the match was still going on. It is being reported that around 4 persons, including 2 policemen were injured. All the injured ones were taken to the hospital and are out of danger now.

PCB then released a statement calling the blast as a power Transformer Blast’. Also, it added that the transformers were not working properly and agreed that few policemen were injured as a result of this blast.

Even the media was not allowed to reach to the area . A rescue operation guy confirmed that around 4 people were injured but didn’t confirm if it was as a result of the transformer.

This is the first International tour by any cricketing nation after what happened with the Sri Lankan team in 2009, where they were attacked by some masked terrorists. No team had visisted Pakistan since then even after PCB tried a lot on it’s part. Even the ongoing tour faced a lot of issues, with the Zimbabwe team unsure till the last moment.

Though the Punjab Government (Pakistan part) has given the players full security so as to eradicate any terror activity.
