Yet another day and once again, Sarfaraz Ahmed is on the news channels and headlines for all the wrong reasons. The skipper of Pakistan Sarfaraz Ahmed might lose captaincy in the longer version of the game. If the reports are to be believed, PCB has already decided to remove Sarfaraz Ahmed from leading the Test team.

The Pakistan Cricket Board has reportedly decided to remove Sarfaraz Ahmed as Test captain. According to a report in Geo News, the cricketing board has decided to appoint a new person in charge of the Test side before ICC Test Championship.

Shan Masood might replace Sarfaraz Ahmed:

The report adds that PCB’s Cricket Committee will take up the issue in the meeting scheduled next week on Friday in Lahore. It further added that the board might be willing to hand over the job to Shan Masood.

Ahead of the ICC World Cup 2019, Sarfaraz Ahmed hinted he would take a decision on the Test captaincy following the World Cup but now appears content to continue in the role unless asked to step aside.

But, recently, Ahmed declared that he wished to continue as captain of Pakistan in all three formats. Speaking shortly after landing in Karachi following Pakistan’s exit from the 2019 World Cup, Sarfaraz said the job had been given to him by the PCB, and any decision to replace him must come through the same channel.

“It’s not that I’m saying I refuse to resign. All I’m saying is the decision rests with the PCB, the same way as the decision to appoint me captain was taken by them. I’m sure they’ll take the decision that’s best for Pakistan,” he told reporters earlier this month.

However, no Pakistan captain ever, not even the great Imran Khan, has won more than one major ICC trophy except for Sarfaraz. After winning Under-19 World Cup in 2006, Eleven years later, the seniors clinched the ICC Champions Trophy under his captaincy.

Statistically, his winning percentage in ODIs stands at a healthy 56.52, which is better than both Imran Khan’s 55.92 and Misbahul Haq’s 53.48 — two of Pakistan’s most highly regarded captains. Well, it would be interesting to see whether they would back Sarfaraz Ahmed or not.
