Five possible replacements for Anderson and Hazlewood for the Mumbai Indians

The Mumbai Indians have finally won a game in the ongoing IPL. The much needed win came against the Royal Challengers Bangalore in Bangalore. Rohit Sharma led the side with extreme precision and the batsmen were terrific to say the least. But, it was the bowlers who stole the show. They tied down the T20 monster Chris Gayle big time.

However, the Mumbai based franchise just has one win in five games. This is the most undesired situation for a team to be in. To deteriorate matters further, Aaron Finch, Corey Anderson and Josh Hazlewood have been ruled out of the IPL. While Finch’s replacement has been named, there is no confirmation about Anderson’s and Josh’s replacements.

In this article, we analyze the possible choices of replacements, who could soon don the Mumbai Indians colors:

5. Kevin o’brien:

Ever since he got that epic ton against England in the 2011 World Cup, this Irishman has been touring the globe playing for T20 sides. He has been excellent in the Caribbean Premier League and continues to do well in the Natwest T20 blast. He can roll over his arm as well. With the willow though, he is simply fabulous. When the ball comes in contact with the sweet spot of his bat, it often disappears into the stands. He will be the ideal replacement for Corey Anderson.

This Nottinghamshire run machine likes to express himself from the word go and aggression defines his brand of cricket. Hales has been in top form and recently notched up a quick double ton against Yorkshire. His T20 credentials make him a must have for any side. It was a shame that he wasn’t picked by any IPL team. Nevertheless, the Mumbai Indians can surely boost their chances by roping in this destructive batsman from England.

This man needs no introduction what-so-ever! His run piling ability remains unmatched and he is the conqueror of bowlers. A major reason behind the poor performances of the Mumbai Indians has been that they haven’t found any stability at the top. Lendl Simmons did do well, but he is highly inconsistent. In Amla, the men in blue would find an ideal innings stabilizer who can set up a perfect platform for the likes of Pollard and Rohit to explode.

Hilfenhaus can be the ideal replacement for Hazlewood. Both the Australians have the same bowling strengths and accuracy is the most potent weapon of the two. Hilfenhaus had been a regular for the Chennai Super Kings and did very well for them. His control of the new ball is superb. He has often troubled the top order batsmen with his sharp swing and seam. With Lasith Malinga struggling for form, Hilfenhaus seems to be an ideal candidate.

The tall left arm pacer did wonders for the Chennai Super Kings. He used to be hostile in his opening bursts for the men in Yellow. Bollinger was so brilliant with the ball that he used to even snag the batsmen on the lifeless wicket of Chepauk. The Tasmanian has a lot of experience while playing in the IPL and there is no doubt over his abilities. He can bang the ball in short and can also deliver the toe crushers. With Malinga, he can form a lethal new ball pair. If that happens, the batsmen better be ready for some serious chin music.

These were the possible choices for the replacements of Corey Anderson and Josh Hazlewood.  The Mumbai Indians would have loved to have the Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara as well. But the southpaw has county commitments which make him unavailable for the IPL.
