PREVIOUS YEAR CLASHES
The first time they met was at Sharjah on the 27th April. It was a low scoring match. Sunrisers won the toss and elected to bat. They lost 2 early wickets of Dhawan and Warner at the score of 15. After that KL Rahul and Finch put up a 52 runs stand. At one stage they were 109 for 5 in 17.2 overs. Sammy and Karn Sharma ensured that Sunrisers reached a score of 145 for 5 in 20 overs. While chasing Chennai super Kings got off a great start putting up 85 runs first wicket stand. Mcullum scored 66 and Smith 40. The rest of batting struggled but at the end Chennai Super Kings won the match by 5 wickets with 2 balls to spare.
After 19 days they met again but this time in Ranchi. It was a high scoring match. Sunrisers won the toss and elected to field. Chennai Super Kings got off a flying start putting 33 for the first wicket in 3.3 overs. Dwayne Smith took the bowlers apart hitting 47 off 28 balls. David Hussey and MS Dhoni hit 50’s in quick time to help Chennai Super Kings post a competitive total of 185 for 3 in 20 overs. While chasing Sunrisers openers began off a great start with Dhawan and Warner putting up 116 runs first wicket stand in just 11.2 overs. David Warner scored 90 off 45 balls where Dhawan remained not out on 64 off 49 balls. They did struggle at end but won the match by 6 wickets with 2 balls to spare.
Brendon Mucllum started off in a fantastic fashion against Kolkata Knight Riders. He took 19 off the first over and made the batting look very easy. He proved that he is the best in the world. Against Sunrisers Hyderabad he needs to provide the same start or even score more if Chennai has to continue to win their match.
Dwayne Bravo did score some runs against Kolkata Knight Riders. He came at a tough time and scored 30 runs but it was not enough for Chennai to win the match. He was not at his best with the ball but if he performs with bat and ball then Chennai will win their match against Sunrisers.
David Warner looked in fine touch against Kings XI Punjab. He lost his partner Dhawan early but did not break his focus. He took the bowlers on and scored a 58 off 41. There was no bowler who was going to stop that day but got out playing a big stroke. Against Chennai Super Kings he needs to lead from the front and play an attacking innings if the team has to beat the CSK team.
Trent Boult was brilliant in the match against Kings XI Punjab. Defending a modest 150 he picked the early wicket of Vohra. In the 18th over when Punjab needed 35 runs to win, he came and picked 2 wickets conceding 7 runs which left Punjab struggling at the end. He finished with figures of 3 for 19 in 4 overs. Against Chennai Super Kings he needs to perform in the same manner against formidable batting line especially to the openers.
