Prithvi Shaw Ready to Bat at No 4 for India in ODI’s if Given Opportunity

There is certainly no doubt about the fact that Prithvi Shaw is one of the finest young batsmen among the current bunch of cricketers. In his 2 matches Test career, Prithvi Shaw has already scored a century and has already cemented his place in the Indian Test team. If not for his injury during the Test series in Australia, Prithvi was the 1st choice opener during the series.

However, he had to return back to India without playing any of the Tests. Instead, Mayank Agarwal got an opportunity and also cemented his place courtesy a couple of sensational knocks. While speaking to IANS, Prithvi Shaw will be playing for the Delhi Capitals said that Team India skipper Virat Kohli and head coach Ravi Shastri has make things pretty easy for the youngster in the dressing room.

“I have learnt a lot. I mean I was a bit nervous when I first entered that (Indian) dressing room with players having 10 years of experience sitting in front of me. When the skipper and coach said that there are no seniors or juniors, you then kind of open up and irritate them with your questions,” he said.

When Prithvi injured his ankle ahead of the Australia Test series, there were quite a few rumours that the young gun had not worked hard enough during the rehab process. However, he has dismissed all of these allegations.

“No one told me anything about not working hard. I wanted to play but got injured. I thought I could play the third Test (in Melbourne) but the progress of recovery was slow. If you have had a look at my ankle, you would have known that it was really painful. Ankle wasn’t healing quickly and I had to return,” he said.

Meanwhile, Prithvi Shaw also praised the facilities at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. He went through the rehab at the NCA before joining Mumbai teammates for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Prithvi will definitely look to come all guns blazing in the IPL as he won’t get to play any international tournaments before August.l

“I mean everything was perfect over there (NCA). I did a lot of sessions there. I was working to get fit before Mushtaq Ali T20 as I wanted to get used to the T20 format and then go to the IPL. That’s how I had planned my two months of rehab. Trainers and physio were very committed,” he revealed.

Team India has had a terrific time in the limited overs format off late barring the hiccup in the recent series against Australia. However, the dilemma surrounding the No 4 slot has not been solved yet. Prithvi Shaw who hasn’t even batted in the middle order is up for the challenge if the selectors ask him to adapt to the No 4 spot.

“For India, it is all about whatever number they want me to bat and not the other way round. When I open the innings in limited overs, my mindset is different. Two men outside 30-yard circle, powerplay overs.

“But when I am going down the order, it will obviously change. I watch a lot of experienced players. I watch if I go at No 5, what will I do there. It’s all about mindset, how you approach that situation,” he said.

Prithvi Shaw is definitely one of the most exciting talents of world cricket at the moment. However, there were rumours that he didn’t work very hard towards his fitness. However, he dismissed all those allegations and stated that he rumours weren’t correct.
