Cricket is the second most popular sport in the World. Being one of the prime sports governing body in the world ICC offers a huge sum to the winner of it’s sponsored the tournament. cricket is one of the richest sports in the World. Cricket’s shortest and the most exciting tournament is the ICC World T20 2016 has been in the midway in India.
10 teams in two groups are fighting with each other in two groups for the semifinal berth now. New Zealand have already qualified for the semifinal being the first team in the tournament. The semifinals will be held on March 30 and March 31 respectively in Feroz Shah Kotla and Wankhade Stadium of Delhi and Mumbai respectively.
All these 10 countries are vying for $3.5 billion, the prize money of the winner. ICC has increased the prize money of the ICC World T20 2016 33 per cent from the 2014 editions. The runners up will receive $1.5 million. And the two semifinalists will get $750,000 while every team will get guaranteed $300,000 as participation bonus regardless of the result. For winning a Super 10 bonus of $50,000 for winning group games.
In 2014 World T20 the prize money was not as much as this World T20 in India. Sri Lankan board pocketed $1.1 million as Sri Lankan lifted the trophy at Sher-e-Bangla National stadium, Mirpur, Dhaka. Runners-up India received just 550,000 for reaching the final.
However, players don’t get any portion of the prize money. This money goes to the coffer of respective cricket associations for the development of cricket. But, players get bonuses in their salaries for winning a tournament from their respective boards. Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) promised 400 per cent bonus in match fee if Men in Blue win the T20 World Cup.
Players, however, get cash prize on individual performances from International Cricket Council (ICC) for their individual performances. The cash prize is usually given to “player of the match” in every game by the main sponsor of the tournament.
While ICC also bestows huge prize money to a player who score the highest run in the tournament and a cash prize of $100,000 to the player who is elected as the best player in the tournament.
