Punjab Kings Playing 11 (PBKS Playing XI) & Delhi Capitals Playing 11 (DC Playing XI), IPL 2024, Match 2:

Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) will be taking on each other in the second game of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024). The seventeenth edition of the tournament got underway on Friday (March 22) with the game between reigning champions Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

The PBKS vs DC game is scheduled to take place on Saturday (March 23) at the newly-built Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur. With an eye on their first-ever IPL title, both the teams will be looking to start their campaign with a win. So before the game begins, we are taking a look at the probable playing XIs of both the teams

PBKS Playing XI:

Openers: Shikhar Dhawan (C), Prabhsimran Singh (WK)

Captain Shikhar Dhawan and Prabhsimran Singh are set to open the innings for PBKS in IPL 2024. While Jonny Bairstow is also another good option, PBKS are likely to stick with the combination after their impressive display in the last IPL. Dhawan scored 373 runs in IPL 2023 while Prabhsimran scored 358 runs including a century.

Middle-order and allrounders: Jonny Bairstow, Atharva Taide, Liam Livingstone, Jitesh Sharma (WK), Sam Curran

Jonny Bairstow, Atharva Taide, Liam Livingstone, Jitesh Sharma are likely to form PBKS’ middle-order while Sam Curran will be the designated allrounder. Bairstow recently endured a tough time in the Test series against India and would be desperate to do well this season.

Taide impressed last season, scoring almost 200 runs with the help of two half-centuries and will be eyeing another successful campaign. PBKS’ fate will depend a lot on how Livingstone performs and the England star will be keen to justify the faith.

Bowlers: Harshal Patel, Rahul Chahar, Kagiso Rabada, Arshdeep Singh

PBKS are likely to play the game with three fast-bowlers and one spinner. Harshal Patel, Kagiso Rabada and Arshdeep Singh look set to form the pace trio while Rahul Chahar will be the sole spinner in the team.

DC Playing XI:

Openers: David Warner, Prithvi Shaw

For DC, David Warner and Prithvi Shaw look set to be the openers. Warner had a fine campaign with the bat last year, scoring 516 runs with the help of six half-centuries. Warner usually struggled with his strike-rate last year. However, he has been relieved of the captaincy responsibility for IPL 2024 and will be looking to be at his devastating best.

On the other hand, Shaw endured a disastrous campaign last year. He managed to score only 106 runs in eight games and will be desperate to do well in IPL 2024.

Middle-order and allrounders: Mitchell Marsh, Rishabh Pant (C), Tristan Stubbs, Lalit Yadav, Axar Patel

DC’s middle-order will be bolstered by the return of their captain Rishabh Pant. Mitchell Marsh has been in good form as well and will be looking for a productive season. Stubbs recently impressed in SA20 and will be keen to prove himself in the IPL as well while Axar Patel will be looking to continue his fine run with the bat in recent times.

Bowlers: Kuldeep Yadav, Ishant Sharma, Mukesh Kumar, Anrich Nortje

With Axar Patel already a spin option, Delhi Capitals are likely to play the game with three frontline pacers and one spinner. While Kuldeep Yadav is set to be the leader of the spin department, the pace department will have the likes of Ishant Sharma, Mukesh Kumar and Anrich Nortje.
