Stats: Race for the Orange Cap already heats up in the IPL 2016

The Indian Premier League has already produced some thrilling games and some even better performances. Ever since its incorporation, the tournament has been known to provide chances to players to prove themselves consistently on the domestic level so that they can get a chance to climb up the ladder and perform in International cricket.

The crowds and the atmosphere in the grounds for these IPL games is nothing less than intimidating and only the best in the business can actually get over it and perform regularly for their franchise.

And the tournament organizers have over the years presented awards for the most consistent player in every department. The highest run-getter overt the whole tournament gets an orange cap while the highest wicket taker gets a purple one.

Last year, Hyderabad franchise’s David Warner ran away with the Orange Cap.

Let’s take a look at 5 people who can run away with it this year:

  1. Aaron Finch (Gujarat Lions):

Moving to a new franchise after playing for the suspended CSK team last season, Aaron Finch has taken no time to adjust to this season’s IPL. The Lions are at the top of the table already and it has helped that the Aussie opener has amassed 124 runs in his two outings. He picked up the man of the match award for his sizzling knock against the Supergiants as he helped his team with 74 quick runs while chasing a decent total. If he keeps up the good start, he can easily run away with the Orange Cap at the end of the competition.

  1. Rohit Sharma (Mumbai Indians):

After failing miserably in the opening game against the Supergiants, Rohit Sharma showed his class with an unbeaten 84 as he helped his side chase down 187 against the Kolkata Knight Riders earlier this week. He has scored 91 runs in total and will surely be in touching distance from the Orange Cap if he continues to play confidently for the rest of the season. Taking the responsibility as a captain tends to get the best out of him and he may well help his team to another IPL victory with a consistent scoring form from now to the end of the season.

  1. Virat Kohli (Royal Challengers Bangalore):

The backbone of the Indian national team batting line-up Virat Kohli has carried his form from the World T20 into the IPL this season. He was simply unstoppable in his 75 against the Sunrisers Hyderabad wherein he scored all around the park and helped his team to a total in excess of 220. He is in such good form at the moment that the opposition teams need separate plans for him and even then, the Delhi-born batsmen can send the plans for the walk. He is in devastating form and can easily run away with the Orange Cap this year.

  1. AB de Villiers (Royal Challengers Bangalore):

Mr.360, as he is called by his fans, was once again at his best in RCB’s opening game against the Sunrisers. He smashed 82 of just 42 balls on the night as he lifted his team to a total of 226 and gave his team their first points on board. He has the ability to score even off the best bowlers in the tournament and is a serious threat to the Orange Cap this season. He is currently the highest run-getter in the current season of the IPL to have played only a single game and is well on course to lead the pack.

David-Warner-6

  1. David Warner (Sunrisers Hyderabad):

The pocket dynamite, as he is called in Australia, David Warner, the winner of the Orange Cap last season has once again started this year in supreme fashion. He was not at his best in the WorldT20 but showed glimpses of what he is capable in the first game against RCB. He scored 58 of just 25 balls and gave SRH a flying start in their pursuit of a target of 227. Though his side ended up losing the game, his form will give the fans plenty to cheer about for the rest of the tournament.
