Former Pakistan captain turned commentator, Ramiz Raza has demanded Pakistani citizenship for Luke Ronchi.
Meanwhile, Ronchi guided Islamabad United to their second title victory in PSL.
However, Raza’s comments came in the wake of Ronchi’s blistering knock in the final. Ronchi scored a dashing fifty, as they beat Peshawar Zalmi by three wickets in the final.
The 36-year old represented the New Zealand side across all three formats of the game before retiring. Also, he had extensively participated in various T20 leagues, reaping enormous success on numerous occasions.
Meanwhile, Raza feels Pakistan should offer citizenship to Ronchi, who plays only in the leagues as reported by Business Recorder.
“Ronchi always plays in the leagues and does not represent any country, so I believe he should be offered Pakistani citizenship, and he should come here and open for us. Otherwise, he would be wasted if he continued to play league cricket,” he said.
“Come in Pakistan and open for us,” he added.
Ronchi’s 26-ball 52 was crucial for Islamabad, as they chased down the target of 149 with three overs still to play.
Previously, Ronchi scored 359 runs off 32 T20Is including a century for the Black Caps. He also took part in the Indian Premier League for a brief period.
Meanwhile, ODI cricket was the forte for this wicket-keeper batsman. He made 1397 runs in just 85 games at a strike rate of 114.51.
However, he finished this edition of PSL as the most successful batsman with 435 runs in 11 matches. Also, he won the man of the series tournament for his feisty performance.
