Ramnaresh Sarwan Appointed As Selector Of West Indies' Men's Team 1

Former West Indies captain Ramnaresh Sarwan has been appointed as a selector of the West Indies Men’s team. The selection committee will be led by former West Indies opener Desmond Haynes and leg-spinner Robert Haynes. Sarwan’s appointment was confirmed during a meeting of the Cricket West Indies (CWI) board of directors on Thursday. Meanwhile, Ramnaresh Sarwan will step down from the role of Chairman of the Guyana Cricket Board’s Senior Selection Panel to avoid any conflict of interest.

Ramnaresh Sarwan played 87 Tests, 181 ODIs and 18 T20Is

“I am delighted to confirm that Ramnaresh Sarwan has agreed to accept the post of the selector on CWI’s Men’s Senior and Youth Panels. He is a student of the game and knows what is required of our young cricketers in order to achieve international success. The Board of Directors are confident that Mr. Sarwan will add enormous value to the cricket system,” CWI President, Ricky Skerritt, said.

Dr. Desmond Haynes and Mr. Robert Haynes, and the two Head Coaches, as well as everyone else involved in the development of this sport we love and respect so much,” Ramnaresh Sarwan said.

Sarwan will serve this role till June 30, 2024. In this period West Indies will play three marquee events- ODI World Cup in 2023 and two T20 World Cups which included one at home in 2024.

Sarwan represented West Indies in 87 Tests, 181 ODIs and 18 T20Is and he had a formidable record with 15 Test hundreds and 5 ODI hundreds. He also captained West Indies in 4 Tests, 5 ODIs, and 2 T20Is.

The next assignment for West Indies will be 5-match T20I series against England. After that, they will travel to India for a series of 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is. Their next assignment in Tests will be in March when they will host England for 3-match series which is also part of the World Test Championship.
